What's the greatest 2D game ever made in your view, and why?

Final Fantasy 6. I'm just kind of obsessed about this game. Gameplay is on the easy side, but playing with handicaps was a blast. Story, characters, vibes, music... loved it all.

Not far behind are FF4CC, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, FF5, Symphony of the Night, Suikoden 2, Penguin Adventure, Maze of Galious, and Chrono Trigger.

+1 to Final Fantasy 6. Great battle system, tons of content, extraordinary art and music, and some of the best storytelling and characterization in any RPG ever.

My short list would be:

1) Final Fantasy VI
2) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
3) Super Metroid
