Anyway this fits my preference in VR:

"none of these games aim to be visually 'next gen' yet maintain a rock-solid 4k 60FPS" In VR it's a rock-solid 90 fps (or 120 fps) that I prefer, not looking next-gen. Hence I play on PSVR2 + PS5 Pro and stay away from unsteady games / PCVR for the best and steady performance. 

On flat it depends on what type of game it is. FS2020 I played at 20fps or lower to max out graphical fidelity. Any high paced games I reduce details to increase performance and aim for 60fps or higher. Resolution goes down as well with detail for performance. No point in having low detail 4K visuals. But also no point in high detail (sub) 1080p visuals, FS2020 I used super sampling to increase fidelity at the cost of performance.
