I appreciate this thread, but I don't think the title and OP match up. This seems more like fidelity vs. performance, not so much fidelity vs. innovation.

If there's an option to choose between quality and performance modes, I will almost always opt for the latter. I'm fine taking a hit to graphics/lighting/textures if it means smoother, more reliable performance. That said, I don't agree that 30 fps is a problem. I think it's perfectly fine.

I'll also add that if the fundamentals of a game are great, then it can overcome some performance woes. If I had to choose between Ocarina of Time at 20 fps on N64 and Skyward Sword at 60 fps on Switch, I would pick Ocarina, because I prefer its design and art.
