Didn't most PS3 games also just boot right into? The ones with mandatory installation usually either took 30 seconds or had the same storage/install reqs as their 360 versions - especially ones that came on multiple discs on Xbox. The UI itself was pretty quick on early PS3 systems (and still is!) but yeah, once they replaced NAND memory with NOR in later fat and slim models it did slow down significantly. Come to think of it it's kinda crazy just in how many aspects these later revisions of the PS3 are worse compared to infamous CECHA/B/C/E. Just don't ever try to download all of the available Gran Turismo patches... unless you've got a year of wait to spare. |
I do remember the slim cut out some features like backwards compatibility and Linux IIRC, which made its slogan "it only does everything" kinda ironic. I ended up getting a slim cos it was all I could find locally when I picked one up again in 2019, but I wish I'd been able to get a fat, if only cos it looks a thousand times cooler haha |
Sony cut BC with the 40GB Phat. While all models play PS1 games, 40GB model cut PS2 BC. Slim mainly removed the flash card ports.
