Sony could have passed the cost onto the customer if they’re wanting to increase profit margins that much.
The hardcore crowd would absolutely pay a higher premium for a physical copy.
Hell, that’s already happening with the Switch 2. If you want a physical copy, a lot of times you’re gonna be paying $10 more for a physical copy than other platforms.
If Sony wanted to, they could have charged an extra $10-$20 for a physical copy going forward, and the crowd would still be there. At least to a good extent. Important thing is that the option would still remain.
