Fun fact... Sony are not the only ones who manufacture bluray/dvd/cd discs. Several other companies produce them and will continue to do so as long as there are customers who need them. So music and movies and games will still be made on physical media..... just not from Sony.

Disc drives for computers are going to comeback like Vynl. Game consoles coming with a disc drive really satisfied the market for Blu-Rays. Once that's gone a lot of these little drive manufacturers will be going from producing for Sony/MS to producing directly for consumers. That means they can charge more. Also, companies that reproduce disk versions of Indie games will be forced to switch to making their products for PCs and that in turn will make PC disc drives become desirable again. Finally, heat waves tend to knockout internet and as the planet gets hotter people are going to realize they need something for when the internet goes out.

It's not going to make a massive comeback. But it will persist and be a big industry like vinyl.
