Aren't a lot of the games physically just digital codes wrapped in a cart, but less convenient since you still need to use the cart to play what is essentially a digital copy of said game?

Digital codes can't be traded, sold, lent, or borrowed can they? And not all Switch 2 games are GKC. Discs were the best middle ground solution and Sony discarded it out of raw greed. Hopefully they pay a hefty price.

Yeah I don't disagree.

End of the day, if players value physical they'd have no choice but to move over to Nintendo (for the time being).

it is interesting taking a look at Nintendo financials. They report a lower digital ratio than Sony at 54.6% (up 1.1% from 25), yet this also includes add-on content supposedly (whereas Sony's doesn't). Another interesting note is that Nintendo does make mention of digital sales of games that have physical releases. More than 52% of all digital sales come from these, with the remainder from digital only content.

I'd be curious to see where the digital divide is next year, and whether GTA6 has an effect outside of just PS5 and Xbox.
