Is this surprising really?

Like 80% of console users buy games digitally.
On PC it is probably almost 100%.

I think eventually even Nintendo will follow.
However it will be the last of the big 3 to go.

That statistic is misleading. There are 1100 games on the PS5 Store. Only around 800 even got a physical release. And only 69% of those games have a proper physical release, where most of the data is present on the disc. And out of that number, many are the kind of games you need to pre-order months in advance from a small boutique outlet to get your physical copy. So the number of physical PS5 games that are readily available is small.

In other words people aren't choosing digital over physical. They are being actively herded and forced into buying digital. When a game has no physical copy or you need to wait a year for said physical copy to get printed of course you are going to buy digital.

Also when Sony says that 85% of game sales are digital they are counting PS4 games as well. Where exactly can I buy a new PS4 game physically?

Once you take all of this into account it's clear that 30% of PS5 gamers still prefer physical copies.
