I don't think this is a reality. Console gamers don't care about PC, they want something cost effective to stick in their living room and already play most of their games digitally. This is a reality I think most need to accept. Console gamers lean digital and even most of those who don't, likely don't hate digital either. Suddenly Pokopia sold 50% of its japanese launch sales digital because there is a stock shortage. I don't think it takes much for people to adapt. |
Last major selling point is an exaggeration on my part, but it's definitely one of the few remaining selling points consoles retain, and discarding it will accelerate the pivot to PC. Luckily for Sony though, the RAM crisis may be beneficial to them as far as console vs PC go, because the price gap is increasing.
I was pretty much locked to digital this generation because my brother's PS5 which I use is an early digital model he bought scalped in 2021. I wouldn't buy a digital only Playstation myself, as even if I convert to digital, I'd like to have the "option" to buy my games physically when i want to. So if you look at my stat being a "%100 digital gamer" this generation, you'd mistakenly assume that I don't care about physical at all, but I actually do. And and as someone who already has a PC, "no discs" will push me further towards PC gaming, and unless someone close to me gets a PS6 they're willing to share (that happens to be more powerful than my PC), I'm going to skip Playstation entirely. So in my case, physical is a big factor, and you wouldn't guess it just by looking at my PS5 library.
