How has it backfired? MS is still releasing all their games on PC. They just don't want them on PS or Switch. PC allowed Sony to recoup development costs while also potentially getting audiences interested in their IP. PC has served it's purpose for both MS and Sony, and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future, albeit in different ways. |
It backfired by slowing down console sales. Consoles make their money by getting people invested in the ecosystem and then getting 20% of every 3rd party game sold. Fewer console numbers = less revenue in the future.

It didn't backfire. Xbox makes a lot of money off PC. Playstation made some money off PC. You think Playstation sold 90+ million consoles because of their exclusives? I think the reason Playstation stopped doing PC ports for their single player games is because they're embarrassed that PC gamers didn't care about them. I guarantee you if Playstation put their games day one on PC it would not affect their console sales at all. |
Exactly how much money does Xbox make off PC? Does Xbox release sales data for PC games? How about revenue data and profit data?
Playstation stopped doing ports for their PC games because they didn't sell well enough to justify it. Like you said, PC Gamers didn't care about them.
