There was also another Destiny spinoff that was cancelled a year or so ago that I think Bungie/Sony kind of expected to help with the declining popularity of Destiny 2 that didn't come to fruition.

Although I wonder if porting Destiny Rising to consoles/PC's is in the cards now.

Really? I think this is the first time I've read about it.

I do hope they have more than just Marathon in mind to keep Sony at bay, sure, if Marathon somehow explode in popularity someday, it is a possibility when there is a good product and a company doesn't give up on it, like Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky (those 2 game did have massive frontloaded sales to start with tho, despite how massively bashed they were they did bring the money day one), but it would be better to have other projects, in their case the safest one of the best, so Destiny, so they have a better perspective of pulling their weight eventually.

I personally think that most of the "projects" that Bungie supposedly had in development that coincided with Destiny being at its most profitable, were never actually legitimate projects that were only designed to inflate Bungie's portfolio to get the highest price possible from a buyout, and it worked. Suddenly, projects left and right started getting canceled.

No proof of this. It's just one of those things where seeing the situation Bungie is in now, you start look at how things have played out over the last few years with suspicion.
