Friday gaming news, part two:
I thought I was over 2.5D, but make it look like Marvel vs. Capcom plus Berserk and I'm back, baby

I've grown weary of 2.5D games in the past few years, with most of my fatigue stemming from the "HD-2D" look Square Enix has embraced with the Octopath series and remakes of its old games. Seeing a pixel art guy ambling around a 3D village with the bloom cranked up just doesn't do it for me anymore.
Which is why seeing the upcoming hack 'n slash Dungeon Lurker in action felt fresh: Instead of dinky little Final Fantasy guys, this 3D world is populated with huge, lovingly-dithered comic book-style sprites with buttery-smooth animation. It's giving "arcade perfect" more than "we love the Super Nintendo," a level of craft I mostly associate with latter-day 2D fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
Subnautica 2 promises to add 'one of the most requested' features, but sorry, it's not a knife you can stab fish with

Subnautica 2 launched last month with both huge player numbers and widespread acclaim, but this is just the start of its early access journey. With a couple years of development still to come, design lead Anthony Gallegos outlined what players can expect to see coming to the undersea survival game in the weeks and months ahead.
There's good news for fans of the original: a beloved feature is going to resurface soon in Subnautica 2, but there's also a bit of bad news for the crowd who have been clamoring for a way to kill aggressive sea creatures.
"Our next region, the home of the Collector Leviathan, will add a new chassis that brings back one of the most requested player experiences. So, get ready to get stompy," Gallegos said.
Elden Ring's promised update with new classes and armor will finally be ours in August—but we still don't know if it's paid or free

Bandai Namco has revealed that the Switch 2 "Tarnished Edition" of Elden Ring will finally launch on August 28. But who cares about that—the company's press release also confirmed that the Tarnished Edition's new goodies will also be coming to the PC version on the same day.
'What was unravelling is suddenly stabilizing': Destiny 2's last update is getting an absurd 71 pages of patch notes, but its story is closing with a shrug

I don't know what to say anymore, man. In the two weeks since announcing that Destiny 2 will soon be entering maintenance mode, Bungie has been gradually unveiling a massive slate of changes for its final Monument of Triumph update. Those additions and quality-of-life reworks have been so well-received that D2's daily peak player counts are now almost triple what they were immediately before its retirement date was declared.
Patrol zones are being revitalized. Loot tables are being stuffed with returning weapon favorites. Each class is getting new abilities to play with. If the notion that this is a game entering life support somehow didn't already seem patently absurd, Bungie confirmed in an X post yesterday that the patch notes for Destiny 2's last update will encompass almost six dozen pages.
Everyone in Rust is getting a new face
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/everyone-in-rust-is-getting-a-new-face/
Rust's character customization options have always been a bit unusual in that… well, you don't get any. Your character's looks are generated by a random seed and you don't have any say over them. Whatever you get, you get, from face to race to gender to the size of your dong or boobs.
But your character in Rust is going to look different as of the newest update.
"We’ve overhauled the player model from the ground up," Facepunch Studios said today. "This includes improved meshes and materials, more realistic proportions on a new rig, expanded head and hair seeds and a much needed pass over almost everything player-related."
I regret to inform you that you almost certainly overlooked a sick as hell shrimp game on Steam last month
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/i-regret-to-inform-you-that-you-almost-certainly-overlooked-a-sick-as-hell-shrimp-game-on-steam-last-month/
Last month, a game called Shrimp Game: Krill Confirmed launched on Steam. It's a self-contained demo for the upcoming shrimp game, Shrimp Game, and as a game about shrimp it has all the features you'd expect: You can pilot one of 11 weaponized combat shrimp-forms, imbue them with a cocktail of violent elemental powers, and equip them with dozens of armaments like shotguns, sniper rifles, and explosive cannon rounds.
Persona 4 remake news feels all-but inevitable, but a little rating weirdness means I wonder about Golden content
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/persona-4-remake-news-feels-all-but-inevitable-but-a-little-rating-weirdness-means-i-wonder-about-golden-content/
Almost exactly a year ago, Persona 4's seemingly inevitable remake broke cover for the first time at an Xbox Games Showcase. Well, sort of. There wasn't much of it, you see. The trailer consisted mostly of the game's protagonist running around a barren Inaba Shopping District, with the odd panning shot of other—equally depopulated—locations from the game, giving the impression Atlus was in early stages on the project and had been forced to whip up something quick out of the materials it had for a reveal.
But perhaps it's due sooner than that first trailer would suggest. Fans have spotted that Persona 4 Revival now has an ESRB rating—which you can verify for yourself on the game's Xbox store page—suggesting that, well, there's enough of the game to rate, for one thing. Those of you hip to the calendar might also note that this rating has popped up very close to the June 7 Xbox Games Showcase; I'd bet all my Third Girl's Talc we're getting some P4R news there.
(...)
We'll just have to wait and see. One wrinkle, though: Persona 4 Revival's ESRB (and PEGI) rating is identical to Persona 4 Golden's, which makes sense. But, as spotted by The Gamer, P4R's Japanese CERO rating is actually lower than Golden's: CERO B rather than CERO C, meaning it's suitable for ages 12 and above. That's the same as the rating for the original, non-Golden PS2 Persona 4.
Please excuse my bad English.
