Part two of the Tuesday gaming news:

Marathon's first 'PvP-lite' experimental mode sounds like a delightfully terrifying alternative
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/marathons-first-pvp-lite-experimental-mode-sounds-like-a-delightfully-terrifying-alternative/
In an effort to provide Marathon with some additional staying power, Bungie said in May that it would be experimenting with PvE and PvE-adjacent offerings as Marathon seasons continue, giving players a chance to see what playing the game is like when they aren't drenched in sweat.
Today, the studio offered some preliminary details about Sponsored Survival, Marathon's first "PvP-lite" experimental mode that will be available during the inaugural week of its second season. Unlike Marathon's other playlists, the mode will allow a single squad to scavenge a map without the looming threat of PvP—to begin with, at least.

Guild Wars teaser has fans hyped up about a potential Guild Wars 3 announcement, and ArenaNet isn't outright denying it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/guild-wars-teaser-has-fans-hyped-up-about-a-potential-guild-wars-3-announcement-and-arenanet-isnt-outright-denying-it/
"The wind stirs. The world shifts. Stand ready," the official Guild Wars account posted on its social media channels on Monday. Accompanying the message was a cryptic video, showcasing lightly animated concept art with a clear fantasy theme, and a date: June 5th, 2026, when we'll all be watching the Summer Game Fest 2026 broadcast.
Some fans are immediately jumping to the most optimistic conclusion: Guild Wars 3?

The League of Legends MMO adds another World of Warcraft vet to its team

We haven't heard much about Riot's League of Legends MMO—basically nothing, if you get down to it—but it's still alive and kicking, and today it kicked again: Brian Holinka, who spent more than a decade at Blizzard, including nearly five years as the lead combat designer on World of Warcraft, has joined the dev team.

Crimson Desert takes around 250 hours to complete, and if that's not meaty enough for you, good news: DLC is coming
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/crimson-desert-takes-around-250-hours-to-complete-and-if-thats-not-meaty-enough-for-you-good-news-dlc-is-coming/
Crimson Desert DLC is on its way, because you can never have enough Crimson Desert apparently. Pearl Abyss teased the news in its June-September 2026 preview, where it also detailed a bunch of tantalising improvements, but it hasn't given much away so far.
>> Maybe because to make room for this DLC or because they realized it’s not good, they’re fixing the story(link).

Subnautica 2's no-killing policy isn't because it's 'a game about pacifism', says design lead, but because players would 'master the crappy combat' over anything else
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/subnautica-2s-no-killing-policy-isnt-because-its-a-game-about-pacifism-says-design-lead-but-because-players-would-master-the-crappy-combat-over-anything-else/
Subnautica 2 got into a bit of hot water (get it?) recently over some Discord comments that bluntly stated it wasn't a "killing game". Now, I didn't exactly buy into the critique of the game centered around that—I think it's perfectly fine for videogames to be about different things—but I do appreciate that being hounded by a scary ocean creature with no means of defense probably doesn't feel great.
In a recent interview with MinnMax, design lead Anthony Gallegos explains that the choice wasn't made because "we're like 'we're a game about pacifism' or 'we're a non-violent studio'—the studio's founded by modders who made Half-Life mods and their first mods were all about shooting aliens."

Fallout 76's latest Infestations update will be 'one of the easiest ways to get a four star' legendary as new type of hostile encounter spreads through Appalachia

Fallout 76's next update launches today, alongside the new season, Appalachia Under Siege. With it comes a new hostile encounter that sees different factions or forces claim up to "40 unique locations" only to be driven out by you, the player.

It's wild that Destiny 2's biggest ever quality-of-life update is the one that ends the game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/its-wild-that-destiny-2s-biggest-ever-quality-of-life-update-is-the-one-that-ends-the-game/
Next week, Destiny 2 comes to an end. The Monument of Triumph update, releasing on June 9, marks the final release for Bungie's nine-year-old live-service behemoth. (...) It is genuinely absurd the number of quality-of-life updates being stuffed into this final patch. While I'd expected an effort to leave the game in a better place for its final, forever state, I'm finding that with every new preview, I'm awaiting next week's release with more and more excitement. Here's just some of the major changes dropping:

Overwatch is changing the requirements for its rarest anniversary event reward after realising playing 240 games over 3 weeks may be too much of a grind

Overwatch's anniversary event has come under quite a bit of fire over the last few weeks. While the nostalgic modes were a hit, fans have complained that the rewards are simultaneously not good enough and too much of a grind, and they're not wrong.
(...)
Yesterday Overwatch's game director, Aaron Keller, announced that Team 4 would be "making changes to the anniversary event because the requirements to earn the Table Flip (legendary title) weren't entirely clear."
