Bold to assume none of those studios are getting closed, I fully expect some to close along the way. MM, Haven, Housemarque Firesprite and Bend may already have released their last game. |
It was more like an overview than assuming anything lol but I can buy the idea of HAVEN and Bend closing, if Fairgames fails HAVEN is done, if the service push ends Bend is most likely also done.
Media Molecule is 100% in danger, when London was closed rumors say it was a decision between London and MM. The key factor here is the 6 years in the same project, if that game wasn't good enough it would have been cancelled by now, Sony had multiple chances. I don't see MM closing before releasing their game.
Firesprite already paid with blood, half the studio was out when Sony cancelled their service in 2024. This one could be in trouble but I just see other options being better than closing FS, also they are making a single player game and Sony will be short on those in the next few years.
And in the case of Housemarque idk why people are so fixated with HS closing lol, Sony knew perfectly Returnal numbers when they decided to acquire them but hey never say never right? We can resume that conversation in 3 months when the 2026 1/4 financial report is out. If Sony is happy with whatever number SAROS sold in 3 months then it doesn't matter if it sold 1 or 1M copies.
If I have to guess what studios are in danger of layoffs/closing this year or next I would say HAVEN(closing), Bend(closing), LFG(closing), Guerrilla(layoffs) and Bungie(layoffs).
