My personal experience - which is obviously subjective and not neccesarily a reflection of the reality - is that it is way more popular with kids. While a ton of adults grew up with it and remember the earlier pokemon games fondly, most of them have moved on from the franchise and would not even be able to recognize modern pokemons. But all the kids from my nephews and nieces generations follow the franchise, play the games, and specially collect the cards. Im talking about kids aged 6-10.
