What’s causing most of the confusion is Sony refusing to officially clear anything up.

Here's another interpretation of SpawnWave's check. I've also come across another user on ResetEra explain that this check is only performed once via hacking their system.

Sony really shouldn't have stealth dropped this info— definitely would've been much to their benefit had they explicitly stated what's going on upon dropping this update. Their lack of response is certainly also a tad bit interesting, though it also has only been a few hours. Just give it some time. We should know the answer officially within the next two months, worst case scenario.
