I saw a livestream over the weekend of a guy taking apart his PS5, taking off the CMOS battery and it did indeed stop him from playing his newly purchased digital games.

But today, I watched this video and it seems like the situation is a little more complicated.

It seems like the PS servers are giving out temporary licences for 14 days (which is why you need to keep your console online/with a CMOS battery) but after the 14 days pass, they grant you a permanent licence.

It's all very bizarre and I don't get why Sony made this change or why haven't they said anything publicly.
