Thankfully I haven't had this happen too many times before. The only time that comes to mind is The Evil Within 2. I've read that a lot of people consider it to be a superior game over the first one which I find really baffling.
Don't get me wrong though, the first one has its fair share of flaws but as a whole I had a really good time with it and it ended up being a distinct enough horror game from the likes of RE and SH, it's like an 8/10 for me. TEW2 though? It just didn't click with me. The more open setting didn't really help the game, the bosses were much less interesting than the first game and the story was just a severe letdown. The first one had a story that was kinda all over the place but by the end, enough of it works (particularly the main villain). The second game's story had an interesting idea for a villain but they throw it away halfway through the game and the person who ends up being the main villain/final boss just...doesn't work for me, at all.
