Taking a quick glance at Super Mario 64 and Smash 64 versus SMSunshine and Smash Melee… yeah I’m not sure there’s much debate at least as far as graphics are concerned.

Setting aside graphics: I feel like there could potentially be an interesting discussion regarding the direction of the industry during each generation. The leap from linear, story-heavy PS4/Wii U generation to the exact opposite (i.e. open world, sandbox NSW/PS5) is certainly a major jump. Also the pivot toward live-service games. Oh, and the Wii/PS3/XB360 generation is where we first saw online multiplayer and storefronts be introduced, and consequently the rise in indie developers, DLC, and post-launch patches. This could really make for an interesting comparison…
