On my recommendation, my younger son played both of them few of years ago, when he was around 15...he loved them. Yes, they are still that great...not to mention FO1 is pretty much regarded as first CRPG that implemented cohesively what became standard trinity of combat/stealth/diplomacy approaches to gameplay (to no surprise, since Tim Cain was avid TTRPG gamer).
That said, I can see how clunky they can seem to modern sensibilities - there's plenty that can be improved, especially when it comes to UI. I'd rather not see remakes of them, if they are not spearheaded by Tim and Leonard, since Bethesda has clearly shown that they don't understand (or just don't care about) original Interplay's Fallout.
