Trump has reasons to lie to keep oil prices down but the same goes for Iran to keep prices up.

In any case however I'm inclined to think Trump is buying time until he has better leverage. The USS Tripoli and her strike group are now close to the Gulf.

All Iran has to do to keep prices up is send another drone into an oil refinery or oil tanker. Question is who is Trump allegedly been talking to if at all.

Iran could be lying about talks to keep a tough face for their population / military, we don't negotiate with terrorists kinda thing. They've been bombed twice now under negotiation. But if Iran can get the US to leave the ME through negotiations they'll accept that of course.

Problem is who is going to guarantee to hold the US/Israel to any agreement. Israel sure isn't respecting any agreement nor ceasefire.

Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has denied talks have taken place between Iran and the US, echoing the Foreign Ministry’s statement.

“No negotiations have been held with the US, and fake news is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped,” he wrote on X.

Iran responded by giving warnings about “the dire consequences of any attack on Iran’s vital infrastructure”, Baghaei said. US President Trump earlier claimed that the US spoke with senior Iranian leaders, and that the Iranians reached out first.

Responding to an IRNA reporter’s question about whether the US has stepped back from threats against Iran’s critical infrastructure, Baghaei said messages have been received in recent days through “friendly countries” conveying a US request for negotiations to end the war. Iran responded “appropriately” in line with what he called “the country’s principled positions.”

Baghaei said Iran’s replies included warnings about what he described as severe consequences if Iran’s critical infrastructure were attacked. He added that any action against Iran’s energy infrastructure would be met with a “decisive, immediate and effective” response by Iran’s armed forces, IRNA reported.

The spokesperson also rejected any negotiations or talks with the United States during what he called the past 24 days of an “imposed war.” He said Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for ending the war have not changed, according to IRNA.

Trump earlier today said the United States had reached “major points of agreement” with Iran following discussions that continued late into Sunday with two senior U.S. envoys.Speaking to reporters at an airport in West Palm Beach, Florida after spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump said the talks produced progress, but he stopped short of detailing the full scope of the discussions. “We’ll see where they lead,” he said.

So seems the US reached out, got the same response, Trump backed down. Trump tells it like he made progress, but the only 'agreement' reached is better not attack Iran's power plants.
