Yeah I'm gonna have to strongly disagree with the notion that previous generations were "shitty".

You'll never convince me that games like Super Mario World, RE4, Metroid Prime, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie, Halo, Doom, and countless others are shitty games just cos graphics technology has advanced since they were made.

Hell, even the PS4 itself is now way out of date, but that doesn't mean Uncharted 4 or RE7 or Monster Hunter World aren't great games.

Maybe the issue is that I just came off abrasive. Obviously I or anyone else can't say that any game is *objectively* shitty, because it is a matter of taste. One might even say they aren't shitty for their time, but they can feel shitty now in comparison. If they were perfect, why don't Nintendo and others make them with the same 8-bit tech any more, or whatever they might have used? Or maybe you just don't like the word "shitty"? Too strong of an expression? Fair enough. Let's say "lackluster" instead, but the point remains.

Maybe there are people who truly don't see any difference, no matter the bits or whatever, but I'm not one of those people. All inventions in human history have a habit of going from rudimentary to more advanced, and games are no exception in that regard.

And like I said, the PS4 era was my personal breaking point. For some subjective reason, for me personally the PS4 was the point that felt like this is enough, it doesn't need to get better than this. PS3 games felt good in their time, but now they feel less so for me because I have experienced something better. These are personal feelings. I might completely change my mind about the PS4 as well as we move forward, that's also possible.

While I also personally disagree with your initial take, I do get it is just an opinion and am not offended.  I personally had fun with every generation I have been apart of while understanding it was not the pinnacle.  Pitfall on the 2600 was fun along with Dig-Dug and some others.  Legend of Zelda really grabbed me and I am a fan of the series to this day.  Also on the NES Final Fantasy was an early favorite (it seemed such a big world and had a real story) I was a steadfast fan of that series all the way up until around FF10 then didn't care so much for the direction they were taking the series.  Anyhow I digress ...

For me Perspective is important and rolling with games through the years has allowed us to witness their evolution firsthand.  I feel as if it gives us a perspective that new generations just won't have, experiencing that cutting edge (well as close as a mostly console gamer can experience said cutting edge) time and again.

When eventually we advance beyond even VR I don't think I will find what came before to be sub-par or lackluster but will still think fondly of it as product of its time.

Speaking of the future ... What would it take for you to consider the PS4 era as lackluster?  Are we talking about VR but in the vein of Ready Player One?  Are we talking games that interact directly with the brain (perhaps while you sleep : if that wouldn't screw our ability to store memories) or are we talking Star Trek style Holo Deck?
