Falling shrapnel near Hebron kills Palestinian teenager, two women
The Palestinian Wafa news agency has named the victims killed by falling shrapnel near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday night. They were Mays Ghazi Musalameh, 17, Sahera Rizq Musalameh, 50, and Amal Subhi Abdel Karim Mutawa “Musalameh”, 36.
Thirteen women were also injured when parts of the projectile fired from Iran fell on the salon, which was operating from a metal caravan next to a house, according to Wafa.
Unlike in Israel, where many people have access to fortified shelters and protection from the Israeli military’s defence system, Palestinian residents in the occupied West Bank often live in crowded and makeshift homes, offering little safety during aerial attacks.
People gather for funeral of three Palestinians killed by missile debris
People here are saying this was a tragedy and there’s nothing they can do about it. The Palestinian civil defence team is here to conduct more searches and find out more information about the attack and the nature of it.
People say the [three female victims], who were at a nail salon, were just trying to prepare for Eid al-Fitr, trying to have a normal day here in the occupied West Bank, despite the abnormality that Palestinians face as they see these rockets being fired into Israel and sometimes also into the occupied West Bank.
They have no shelters and no guidance on what to do or where to go. And they have no aerial defence systems. In fact, Israel’s aerial defence systems are around Palestinian villages, which makes them more susceptible to attacks.
Fourth Palestinian woman dies in occupied West Bank from Iranian missile attack
Another Palestinian woman has died from shrapnel wounds sustained when an Iranian missile attack sent debris towards a nail salon in the occupied West Bank late on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll from the incident to four.
The woman, 32-year-old Samir Masalmeh, was six months pregnant, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. A girl who was severely injured in the blast is hospitalised in stable condition, the ministry added.
Palestinian authorities could not confirm whether the shrapnel that caused the casualties came from an Iranian missile or an Israeli interceptor used to shoot it down.
