Which tbf, why wouldn't Sony expect that? Buy Bungie for nearly $4 billion, well aware that Bungie's next project is Marathon, and Destiny 2 was still making bank at that time. It's entirely fair that Sony expected Marathon to be a blockbuster. Currently, Marathon is looking like a good success, but not a blockbuster. That being said, I really hope Sony lets Marathon continue, even if it's a smaller community, as long as there is a continual dedicated playerbase playing the game, it deserves to be supported.

With how volatile the acquisition has been for Sony, perhaps they adjusted their expectations for Marathon, and these numbers are good for them.

I do hope Sony gives this game a chance to succeed in the long run. Player retention has been decent so far and the user reviews have been strong. It would be short sighted for Sony to wind down Marathon's support. It could be one of those games that turn around in the long run after a few updates similar to Destiny 2. However, I do think if Sony had to choose between starting development of Destiny 3 (as its been rumored) or continue supporting Marathon, they're going with the former.
