I have an LG 4k UHD Blu-ray drive that I move between my Desktop and Laptop with modified firmware that circumvents this issue.
But truth be told, I don't use my PC's for watching movies, I have my home theater system for that, but I do enjoy the added compatibility of playing all optical discs without restriction for storage.
You can still rip UHD films to PC of course without SGX, you just can't play films natively as you don't have a protected pipeline to playback these movies.
This is just another example of "Fuck DRM" as it's DRM that screws over legitimate consumers.
