I believe they have already spent the money on the hybrid approach to just drop it so it's coming, but I see a significant pull back and investment in gaming in general from MS.  When you have Sony dropping Bluepoint, layoffs happening left and right within the gaming space and the new generation just not as interested in gaming as our generation, being 3rd place for MS just isn't where they want to be.  I actually see a transition for the whole industry, but MS will as always make the first move because they are at the bottom.

True. I do not see how there is any way to put whatever position Microsoft is in a any bright light :D

I'm fairly excited by this hybrid stuff to be honest, not really for being able to play console games and PC games on the same device (this has never been confirmed btw and I'm still very skeptical that it would be the case), but more because I like this kind of device (Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Xbox Ally, etc...). But the rest is a complete unknown; as you said, Microsoft may be reducing the investment. One thing is that what they have now is still there, and unless they choose to sell it (I really, really doubt it after buying Activision, as it would be really bad for investors, and we are not talking about the same amount as Nokia here) there is still a lot of potential.

I think the people thinking that Microsoft should go back to full exclusivity do not realize how bad this is for Microsoft gaming business. This is good for fans, not for Microsoft at all. And even if those fans are happy, there is no way it is going to bring more money in than going multiplatform, just not even close... I know this is unpopular to say that to certain here but this is just what it is.
