January 2002. I got one for Splinter Cell, much to the surprise of the girl I was with. I had spent the prior year or so ripping on it on the principle that Microsoft was trying to destroy console gaming (crazy thought at the time, but turned out not to be not that absurd in the end). So when I came home with one, man. She really had a laugh. I ended up really enjoying it, though. Spent many a hour playing RTCW (this game was the first big Xbox Live game, despite what history says), Halo/Halo 2 and PSO. Good times.
