Violent clashes erupted in Italy’s Milan as protests against the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics spiraled into chaos just a day after the Games began. What started as a peaceful march turned explosive near the Olympic Village, with protesters hurling fireworks, smoke bombs and flares at police. Officers responded with water cannons and baton charges, detaining several demonstrators. Protesters say the Olympics symbolize environmental destruction, housing speculation and public money being used to benefit the rich, while critics accuse the government of cracking down on dissent during the Games.
Iran MP claims Trump begged for face saving move; US athletes rebel at Olympics
An Iranian MP has revealed that Donald Trump sent a desperate plea through an intermediary country to the Islamic Republic requesting it to allow the US to hit at least two targets. In exchange, Trump reportedly said that Iran could hit a US target in the region. The MP, Mahmood Navabian, said that Iran rejected Trump’s request outright. The revelation was made on the day a host of US athletes taking part in this year’s Winter Olympics decided to criticise the anti-immigration crackdown by Trump’s ICE agents in their own country.
