It's more business than pettiness. Trump doesn't want democracy, he wants dictators that work with him. Maduro wouldn't so he had to go. The VP so far is going along with Trump's wishes.
Same thing with Iran. They don't even talk about elections there but to reinstall the son of the shaw that was installed by the CIA/MI6 in 1953 to protect British oil interests.
