Diablo
When I try new games in the action RPG genre they mostly fail to intreats me because they arn’t like Diablo 1. This game makes no excuses for players. You might find that choices earlier in the game, gold badly spent or abilities and point placed wrong can make it near unplayable in later stages. There is nowhere to farm really. The randomly generated levels is what you get so you should probably check everywhere and everything to give you a better chance of beating the later levels. The dark and moody atmosphere is second to none in creating the almost hopeless feeling of despair. Your actions will matter. Killed units stay dead. Probably the only 2D game that I actually feel afraid of when playing.
I think this game is the best at representing what type of games I like. So if you agree with several of my other favourites there might be a chance that you will like this as well. Even if you need to manually save often in order to not lose progress when you die, which you will do.
