PS5 was hard to get early on.
The Series S, made up like 60% of total sales.... they won sales by being cheap, and finding a casual audience.
That was the appeal of Gamepass as well. Pay 10-15$ a month and play games. Buy some Oreo's and get a free week or two of gamepass...
Seriously it felt like Gamepass was given away for free, on tons of small purchases. Plus there where the upgrade route, where for like a 1$ cost, you could get a month of gamepass from live, and stack upto like a few years worth of gamepass.
This was the success of xbox's route early on.
What happend? Well.... Xbox decided they wanted to earn more money.
As soon as it stopped looking like the most affordable way to enjoy gaming, it killed its momentum.
"the best deal, in gaming" (after going multiplat with all their games, this was their entire marketing and reason for people to jump on)
