Because few under 18 people look older than 21 so by challenging the looking under 21 crowd to show their ID they weed out the minors without having to Id everybody (like the other day I jokingly complained that the cashier wasn't Id'ing a grey haired old lady).
Of course you have the few like me who are older than 21 but look younger than that so we still get Id'ed years later. But, hey, if they still think I might be less than 18 when I will be 40 (in the future) then I will not complain about my Dorian Grayish eternally youthful look (just don't touch my painting mm'kay!).
Oh, and Rubang, count me as another request for your video of sober dancing.
