Outward is not really comparable to this type of games - DOS2 is Larian's take on iso CRPGs - for all the good and bad that Larian brings to the table.
Outward is exploration action-RPG with survival mechanics, not shying away from its modest budget and goal to cater to fairly niche audience. I love it for what it was designed to convey, despite some of its flaws and jank, and I think mixed impressions you see are mostly coming from people getting it and expecting some other type of game than it is.
As for fun - that's very subjective. I had a blast playing Outward with my son, but we both love those "we're lost and it's getting dark - we're fucked" type of situations.
