Although I firmly believe Zionism started as a political movement, it has been very successful in rallying US Christian support / using religion to further their goals.
Christian Zionism: The Most Violent Belief in America
As told by an exchristian, this combined 3-part series is an in-depth explanation of the most violent belief in America: Christian Zionism. (You might've seen these segments published separately, but here's a refresher!)
After growing up indoctrinated as an Evangelical Christian in the United States - and, therefore, an unquestioning Zionist - I've learned a lot about the origins, applications, and monetary assets of the Christian Zionist movement. From the theological beginnings to the modern money behind it, let's take a look at how this belief system is manipulated to manufacture consent for ongoing violence.
Here is some of the 'indoctrination', just a week ago
This Is What Christian Zionism ACTUALLY Is...
Media influencer Tucker Carlson, listened to by millions, recently fired a shot heard around the world by labeling Christian Zionism a heresy and a brain virus. However, Christian Zionism has a history that goes back centuries, and its adherents say its roots are found in the Bible. Carlson later apologized for saying he despised "Christian Zionists" and called them "some of the nicest people I know," but he did not retract his statement that Christian Zionism is Christian heresy and a brain virus. Tricia Miller from the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) wrote an article tracing the history of Christian Zionism.
Ironically this freedom for Christians to go to Jerusalem is being met with Ultra Orthodox Jews harassing them and spitting at Christians. As reported by the US department of State: https://www.state.gov/report/custom/7dccc5dc7b
Christian churches are under attack as well.
The drive behind the genocide and ethnic cleansing is political, yet the political movement has successfully latched on to Christian theology for support. All this would have looked much differently if Herzl had gone with Argentina for the creation of a Jewish state.
"Herzl discussed Argentina's fertile land and a constitutional clause welcoming European immigration as reasons to consider it, though Palestine remained the ultimate goal due to historical and cultural ties. Ultimately, the World Zionist Organization's focus settled on Palestine"
Hence I consider Zionism a political movement (ab)using religious backing rather than the other way around. If it had started as a religious movement, Argentina would never have been considered by Herzl.
There were many destinations at first to escape Europe's anti-semitism in the 1800s

I'm glad younger generations are starting to break out of Zionist indoctrination. That will only expose the political drive more while the religious support starts to falter, and with that part of the monetary support that keeps the Settler colonialism going.
This is from before the current genocide

Billions donated a year
Israeli nonprofits amassed US$35.3 billion in total income in 2015, roughly $45 billion in 2023 dollars, from all sources. That total included revenue like university tuition and concert ticket sales, as well as $4.4 billion – roughly $5.6 billion in 2023 dollars – in donations from all sources, foreign and domestic.
Donations from outside Israel accounted for $2.8 billion of those gifts, about two-thirds of this kind of funding. We analyzed Guidestar’s database of nonprofit tax records to identify U.S. organizations sending money to Israel.
