He's probably talking about you finding any excuse to not have to point the finger at the actual problem which are the cultures and governments of those countries now. For how long will the super left be able to blame colonialism on everything? Yes, that was bad but you know, at some point that cop out stops working.

Maybe the west has spread bad ideologies in the past, but we have advanced. Agreed, there is always more to be done, but blaming the West for the backwards ass practices in the Middle East because of things that happened many decades if not centuries ago is very easy and shows that it just always HAS to be the white man because everybody else is a victim by default...

Advanced? Look into the ME what's still happening. The colonialism, support of corrupt dictators and sowing / supporting unrest haven't stopped at all.

Many decades ago? It's going on right now. Who backs Egypt's Sisi, Saudi Arabia's MBS, the UAE and so on. Those governments right now are the result of Western colonialism and occupation and are still supported by the West. There is little chance of the people of those countries managing reforms as long as the West keeps backing their oppressive regimes.

The actual problem is out of control capitalism, putting profit over the lives of people.

Playing the victim (always HAS to be the white man) is Israel's playbook, which led to live streamed genocide. Israel is still using 'laws' installed under British mandate to illegally detain and torture Palestinians today. And you wonder why the ME still riles against Western 'culture'.

Any form of positive reform in the ME is quickly shut down by the West in favor of keeping control of its resources.

You only think 'we' have advanced. The people ruling you have not advanced at all, they just made you believe they have advanced. You only get as much freedom as they want to give you as long as you keep (unknowingly) supporting their plundering of the world. And now they're using immigrants, that are really economic / political refugees created by Western policies, to point the blame at and gather support for repressive policies.
