Israeli opposition leader calls settler violence against Palestinians a ‘disgrace’
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has called violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank over the last week a “disgrace”.
“This has been a long period in which the situation has spiralled out of control,” Lapid said in a post on X.
His statement comes amid a spike in attacks against Palestinians, which hit a monthly record in October since records have been kept, according to the United Nations.
Lapid called on the Israeli army to restore order and not turn a “blind eye”. “These criminals must be arrested immediately. There is nothing Jewish and nothing Zionist about this violence,” he said.

Israeli army announces three-day military drill in occupied West Bank starting Monday
The Israeli army says that starting early tomorrow, it will conduct a military drill for about three days in the occupied West Bank. “As part of the exercise, there will be a high level of movement of security forces and vehicles in the region,” read a statement from the military.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Palestinian territory has been witnessing daily deployments of security forces conducting military raids, home demolitions and mass arrests.
Israeli police arrest suspect in assault of Palestinian woman during olive harvest in West Bank
Israeli media reports that Israeli police and domestic security service Shin Bet have arrested a suspect in the assault of a Palestinian woman while she was harvesting olives in the occupied West Bank town of Turmus Aya.
Haaretz reports that the incident was being investigated as a “terror attack” involving assault and bodily harm.
In October, a video filmed by an American activist showed a masked man assaulting the elderly woman, who then collapsed to the ground with her face covered in blood. Witnesses say around 200 armed settlers opened fire on farmers and burned cars as Israeli soldiers looked on.
Israeli forces reportedly beat Palestinian man at checkpoint near Jerusalem
A young Palestinian man named Moussa Nasr has appeared beaten in footage circulating on social media. Nasr appears limping with his face bloodied after he was reportedly beaten by Israeli forces at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.
