Still blows my mind that Ensemble was shutdown for knowingly monetary reasons, but seeing the additional context makes the situation even more maddening. While Phil has ruined exclusives, Don really is the one who orchestrated the meme of "Xbox has no games" and now Xbox is releasing more games than ever before. Man I wish Peter Moore had stayed on for a few more years....

What could've been.

Essentially, Ensemble estimated 3.5 years to finish Project Titan. Both Ensemble and MS estimated on the low end the game would bring in $1.1 billion. However, Mattrick's stock bonus was based on money brought in from the games division in 3 years. Obviously no way of getting around that timeframe. So, Ensemble was shutdown to ensure Mattrick received his bonus.

In 2008, Ensemble Studios started planning a gigantic MMO set in the Halo universe. We code-named it Titan. It was to take place tens of thousands of years ago, before the Halos were set off & destroyed all sentient life in the Galaxy.
