IOC supporting genocide.
IOC wants no sport events in Indonesia after visa ban on Israeli athletes
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has urged global sports federations not to host any sporting events in Indonesia after it banned Israeli gymnasts from the ongoing Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, a decision the host nation said it took to “maintain public order”.
The IOC’s executive board issued a statement on Wednesday saying it has recommended that world sports bodies cease holding events in Indonesia.
Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, denied visas to Israeli gymnasts earlier this month amid Israel’s genocide in Gaza, meaning they could not take part in the championship that began on Sunday.
Jakarta said the move was in line with Indonesia’s policy of cutting ties with Israel until it recognises the independence of the state of Palestine.
In its strongly worded statement, the IOC said it was also cutting off all discussions about any potential Olympic Games bid by Indonesia until the government provided assurances that all athletes, irrespective of nationality, would be eligible to compete there in future.
Indonesia defends decision to ban Israel gymnasts
Indonesia stands by its decision to prevent Israeli gymnasts from participating in a world championship event being held in Jakarta, its sports minister said on social media.
Erick Thohir was responding after the International Olympic Committee urged all international sporting federations not to host sporting events in Indonesia.
“We uphold the principle of ensuring security, public order, and the public interest when hosting any international event,” Thohir wrote on X, saying that Indonesia has a constitutional duty to help maintain global peace.
Indonesia does not have formal diplomatic ties with Israel and has strongly criticised the country over its war in Gaza.
Thohir acknowledged that by excluding Israeli athletes, Indonesia would not be permitted to host events under the Olympic framework.
“Indonesia will continue to play an active role in various sporting events at the Southeast Asian, Asian, and world levels, so that Indonesian sports can be an ambassador and a reflection of the nation’s greatness in the eyes of the world,” Thohir said.
Boycott the IOC, world can do with the genocide games.
