Odeh says he was removed from Knesset for demanding Palestinian state
Ayman Odeh, a member of the Knesset who was removed from the Israeli parliament earlier today after he interrupted Trump’s speech, says he was removed because he “raised the simplest demand, a demand that the entire international community agrees on: To recognise a Palestinian state, to recognise this simple reality”.
Ofer Cassif was the other politician removed.
Trump hails Gaza deal as Israeli victory, reframes narrative of the war
US President Donald Trump received widespread praise, and offered plenty to himself, during his Knesset address following the Gaza ceasefire agreement, presenting the outcome as a military victory for Israel.
Trump portrayed Israel as having defeated its enemies with American support, saying Palestinians must now learn the lesson and abandon what he called “terrorism”.
While acknowledging Israel’s growing isolation, Trump said he had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop fighting the world and accept a deal to end the war. He framed the agreement as a step toward expanding the Abraham Accords and deepening Israel’s ties with Arab states.
Trump also cited his previous recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and of its annexation of the occupied Golan Heights.
His speech reframed Israel not as a pariah state with a leader wanted by the ICC [International Criminal Court] but as a victor.
Russia’s foreign minister says Trump’s plan ‘too vague’ on Palestinian statehood
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says Trump’s plan to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict only deals with Gaza and is not specific enough on Palestinian statehood.
“We have noted that Donald Trump’s peace plan only addresses the Gaza Strip. It mentions statehood but in rather general terms,” Lavrov told reporters from Arab countries.
“It’s imperative to flesh out these approaches, including defining what will happen in the West Bank.”
It was Moscow’s clearest statement so far that it does not see the Trump plan as sufficiently detailed and far-reaching – although Lavrov also said Russia hopes all the agreements reached between Israel and Hamas under the plan would be implemented.
