CNN propaganda back in full swing:
Hamas asserts control in Gaza and targets alleged collaborators as ceasefire takes hold

Portraying it as another Syria situation and drumming up sympathy for collaborators... then flat out lies:
In southern Gaza, a group opposed to Hamas known as the Popular Forces has refused to lay down its arms.
The group has been involved in escorting aid shipments and has publicly challenged Hamas, which in turn has said it will confront what it called a criminal gang.
One of its commanders, Hussam al-Astal, posted on Facebook Saturday: “To all the Hamas rats, your tunnels are destroyed, your rights no longer exist. Repent before it’s too late – there is no Hamas from today onward.”
“We are trying to be an alternative to Hamas,” al-Astal told Israeli network Channel 12. “They commit to psychological warfare… and they will use all their power to prove that there is no other option in the strip but them.”
However, Popular Forces members are thought to have relocated behind what is known as the ‘yellow line’ inside southern Gaza, where Israeli forces are still present.
Yes because they are paid and protected by Israel to ignite civil war.
Fact check:
The Popular Forces,[a] also known as Anti-Terror Service,[b] is a Palestinian anti-Hamas armed group active in the Gaza Strip and led by Yasser Abu Shabab.[20] The Popular Forces are Israeli-backed and allegedly Islamic State (IS)-linked.[21][22][23][24][25] The group, which has been described as a gang or militia,[26] is made up of approximately 300 men who operate in eastern Rafah.[27][26] Israeli support for the Popular Forces was only revealed in June 2025, but the group has been active since the beginning of the Rafah offensive in May 2024.[21][28]
The Popular Forces were able to come to power in Rafah during the Gaza war amid the power vacuum left by a weakened Hamas.[29][30] The Popular Forces control territory and aid routes near the Egypt–Gaza border, and have been accused of looting humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip,[26][28][31][32] described by a United Nations official as "grand larceny".[33]
Also Hussam al-Astal is not part of Popular Forces but of CSF:
The CSF was founded on 21 August 2025 during the societal breakdown within Gaza, stating to combat the "repression and terrorism practiced by Hamas". It is based in the village of Kizan al-Najjar, south of Khan Yunis.[2]
The CSF is reportedly backed by Israel's Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces.[3] The CSF and the Popular Forces are reportedly in contact with one another but work independently.[2]
The group is led by Husam al-Astal, a Palestinian Bedouin who worked in Israel and then worked for the Palestinian Authority security forces when they still controlled Gaza. He has spoken favorably about the era of direct Israeli military rule in Gaza prior to the 2005 disengagement. Astal was previously imprisoned and given a death sentence by Hamas for his involvement with Israel, and was accused of involvement in the 2018 assassination of a Hamas-associated engineer in Malaysia.[2]
Same playbook as in Syria, try to ignite civil war by arming Israel favoring factions to keep going after Hamas.
