Israel’s war on Gaza has ‘gone far beyond the limits’: Norway

On the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide called the unprecedented assault a “brutal act of terrorism” against Israel and the Jewish people.

“My thoughts are with all those affected on that painful day and with everyone still living with the deep trauma and lasting repercussions,” Barth Eide said.

He also highlighted the “devastating warfare in Gaza” and said that while every nation has the right to defend itself, such actions “must comply with international law, humanitarian law and human rights”.

“Israel’s response to the October 7 attacks has gone far beyond the limits set by these rules,” Barth Eide said. “Gaza lies in ruins, and the Palestinian population has been subjected to unimaginable suffering.”

‘Open wound’ of Gaza war reverberates for both peoples two years later

Israelis say they’re hoping the peace talks in Egypt will soon lead to the release of all 48 captives still held in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

“It’s like an open wound, the hostages. I can’t believe it’s been two years and they are still not home,” said Hilda Weisthal, 43.

In Gaza, Mohammed Dib, 49, said he wants the end of Israel’s war that has caused a humanitarian disaster, displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians multiple times, and killed more than 67,100.

“It’s been two years that we are living in fear, horror, displacement and destruction,” said Dib.
