Egypt talks focused on key obstacles to ‘end tragic war’: Qatar
Here are more details from the briefing that Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari gave:
- Qatar remains committed to the success of ongoing negotiations on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan “and the pursuit of a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, marking an end to this tragic war”.
- Negotiations are currently focused on identifying “key obstacles hindering the implementation” of Trump’s plan, and on “clarifying the practical details of its execution”.
- Some details discussed include the deployment of international forces in Gaza, the exchange of captives and prisoners, and humanitarian aid reaching Gaza.
- “All parties involved are strongly supportive of the plan and are working toward consensus,” but there are “numerous technical details [that] remain to be addressed”.
As we reported earlier, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani will join the mediated negotiations on Wednesday.
US mediators ‘won’t leave Egypt without an agreement’: Report
US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are on their way to Sharm el-Sheikh where they will join negotiations on Trump’s Gaza proposal on Wednesday morning, the US media outlet Axios reports.
Witkoff and Kushner will remain in Egypt until a deal is reached “to release the hostages and end the war”, it cited two unnamed sources familiar with the process as saying.
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s top adviser, Ron Dermer, is set to join the talks, the news report said.
As we reported earlier, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani will also arrive in Egypt for the mediated negotiations on Wednesday.
