EU welcomes Trump’s plan for Gaza

The European Union has hailed Trump’s plan for Gaza as a “way out of this devastating conflict”.

“The EU supports the principles outlined by President Trump on a demilitarised Hamas with no role in future governance, the removal of any threat to Israel and its people, that Gaza will not be occupied and that Palestinians will not be displaced,” the European Council said in a statement.

“Respect for international law, including international humanitarian law, is a must,” it added.

The council also said it welcomed Israel’s acceptance of the plan and urged Hamas also to agree, noting that the EU “is ready to offer a valuable contribution to this plan through the variety of tools at its disposal”.

Err, Israel has not accepted the plan... You only see it as a way out of your responsibilities under the Geneva Conventions.

WHAT ABOUT THE THREAT TO PALESTINE AND ITS PEOPLE.

Fuck the EU. Dead beat has been colonial scum suckers. They can't even protect their own (Ukraine).

US plan fits into historical refusal to acknowledge Palestinian national rights

Trump’s Gaza proposal is the latest Western effort that ignores Palestinian national rights while seeking to isolate the Strip from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory, says Wadie Said, a law professor at the University of Colorado.

Israel and its top ally, the US, have for decades “been trying to ‘solve’ the Palestinian issue without in any way acknowledging Palestinian national rights in these lands and in these territories”, Said told Al Jazeera.

“This idea of separating Gaza has been floated before, and it’s just a repeat of many proposals that have been in existence that deny Palestinians their right to national self-determination,” he explained.

“The West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem have been declared as occupied illegally by the International Court of Justice,” he added.

Hamas says will respond to Trump’s Gaza plan ‘soon’

Hamas political bureau member Mohammed Nazzal has told our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic that the Palestinian group will soon announce its position on the US proposal.

Nazzal said Hamas, as representatives of the Palestinian resistance, has a right to express its views “in a way that serves the interests” of the Palestinian people.

The group is discussing Trump’s plan with the goal of stopping Israel’s war on Gaza, he added. “We are not dealing [with the plan] under the logic that time is a sword pointed at our neck,” Nazzal said.

As we’ve reported, Trump said on Tuesday that Hamas had “three or four days” to respond to his plan.
