Since my last post I have managed to finish two games.
Silent Hill 2 remake - Exceptional, I think it lives up to the hype. Super scary atmosphere, excellent enemy design, good puzzles, great level design, outstanding storytelling, solid combat. It might be a little too long, some of the areas were a little drawn out, and maybe there were a few too many encounters. But these were minor problems. I have unfortunately never played the original, so cannot say how much of what the remake does well is because the foundation was good and how much it does well because it is a bloody good remake. Expecially the storytelling is levels over most video games I have played, I can count on one hand how many games handle this aspect as well, but for sure it must be because the original did it well, don't know how much changed. In any case, I give the remake a 9/10 for now.
Dead Space remake (2023) - Continuing on my survival horror marathon, I played this acclaimed remake from 2023. I have played some of the original, but never completed it. I think overall it's a pretty cool game with an awesome setting, great weapons, fun combat. The remake definitely improves on some aspects, such as visuals and gore. It is hard to put a finger on anything, however I think it is a bit too action heavy for my taste, it is certainly more action-horror than survival horror, and while the combat is great, it does become a little repetetive eventually. I also wasn't so invested in the story. I give it a small 8/10.
