Some people just don't like it, me being one. When I play a Mario game, I want to play as Mario. When I play a Metal Gear Solid game, I want either Snake, or some sort of clone of Snake (I was one of the angry people on the internet way back when after Kojima did the infamous bait and switch with MGS2). When I play Sly Cooper, I was to play as Sly Cooper etc.

This is a bizarre motive to not buy something.

I couldn't care less if a game has a different protagonist if it's a good, and everything seems to indicate Ghost of Yotei is a good game.

It's actually quite common (not wanting a new protagonist). As I mentioned, the internet was set ablaze by Raiden being swapped into MGS 2 in place of Snake. Almost all of us, from what I can remember. It was nothing but primitive memes about not wanting to endure another moment of Raiden's naked ass. People were irate... rightly or wrongly.

But that doesn't mean you have to feel that way. You can enjoy games that swap main characters out for others. And guess what? You can even do that without disparaging others by calling their dislike for it bizarre.
