Desperate Palestinians set up tents near feared Israeli army base

Thousands of people have fled besieged Gaza City on the coastal al-Rashid Street during the early hours, trying to move to the south of the Strip with whatever transportation they can find.

But some families do not know where to go. That’s why they have set up makeshift tents here, close to the Netzarim Corridor, just 1km (0.6 miles) away from a major Israeli military presence.

These families spent the night in the open, without access to water or toilets, and in many cases, unable to get their hands on any food to feed their children.

This is how desperate the humanitarian situation is for Palestinians from northern Gaza who have been forcibly displaced by the Israeli army’s expulsion orders.

Woman, children killed after phone calls from under the rubble

A Palestinian woman managed to call several relatives and friends from under the rubble of her bombed home in Gaza City’s southwestern Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood. But she and her two children died after Israel bombed them again and delayed the rescue.

Ghada Rabah first called for help on Monday afternoon, saying she was trapped and needed immediate rescue. Her brother had been killed by an Israeli bomb a day earlier.

Palestinian Civil Defence teams were denied an initial request to the Israeli army to head to the area, but were finally allowed a short mission on Tuesday. They found the home had been destroyed after it was hit by a second Israeli strike.

According to local media, the area of the attacks is close to where Hind Rajab and her family were killed by Israeli forces last year.
