I honestly believe we are going to a future with the ability to buy games on Amazon for like 59.99 that plays on PS but Sony not receive any % from it.

Basically the possibility that Sony has to open their store and other stores can sell digital codes for less, stores will make deals and compete with each other (10% cut only as an example).

Gamers can't really be against it, publishers similary will love it.

A lot of people believe this but I just don't see how this future happens. People keep pointing to what's happening on mobile without understanding why it's happening to mobile and can't be applied to consoles.  Even then the mobile issue still isn't closed with Google and Apple still fighting back against it and having success.

I don't think anything will change honestly. Even on PC Steam still charges 30% while other stores charge less and it doesn't matter the consumer wants to be in the ecosystem they know. Xbox PC app charges like 12% and Borderlands 4 didn't even bother releasing on their PC app store. So even on PC where there is a ton of competition people still just default to Steam. Most likely even if this did happen PS would just make it a pain to install other app stores and 99% of people will just default to the PS store. I could even see Sony disabling trophies for any game not on their store and just making it a pain overall.

I did not mention Mobile tho,

You can buy games from humble bundle, ichi,io and smore places and play it on steam with Steam getting a marginal or no cut at all.

Even better the game key program make it so that publishers can generate steam keys and sell them to other stores without Steam getting a dime for it but the obvious idea behind is  'if they use the key on steam they will probably be more inclined to buy games in the future on steam'

^Devs/publishers/Gamers love this.

Making it a pain for games/devs etc will create a backslash, case in point Helldivers 2, Steam has become the main platform for that game and it is thanks to the fact that anyone can play it, don't need to pay for online etc...

Their is also the fact that their is an class action lawsuit against sony's digital store in Europe and if Sony grows especially with buying other studios it will lead to scrutiny cases with as a result that Sony has to open 'more' the digital store. Sony knows this, thats we see the push to having a big Online game, to release games on Steam and other platforms. Sony has stated openly that is not anymore about 'Sales' but users.  If they want more third party sales would it not make sense to make PS5 cheaper and sell more consoles to sell more games to get those 30% cuts?
