Palestianians enduring ‘unimaginable and unbearable’ journeys south
The situation is actually disastrous. What we’re hearing from Palestinians has been unimaginable and unbearable. Palestinians are telling us they have been walking for hours and hours on foot because there is no transportation and most of them are not able to afford the high expenses.
We have been seeing a lot of pregnant women, and we have been seeing children also walking this distance under the very, very strong sun.
Now people who make it to this area and make it safely come here very thirsty and do not have any food or shelter, and they need to start from scratch.
‘Families are sleeping in the open’ in al-Mawasi
Palestinians who have been displaced by Israel’s offensive in northern Gaza to the supposed humanitarian zone of al-Mawasi in the south say they face unbearable hardships in their new location.
Ahmed Awad said he had fled south from northern Gaza amid heavy military bombardment, hoping to find refuge in al-Mawasi. “We arrived here at midnight only to find no water, no toilets, nothing,” he said. “Families are sleeping in the open. The situation is extremely dire.”
Abedallah Aram said the tens of thousands of displaced people sheltering in al-Mawasi faced severe shortages of clean water and food.
“Inside these tents, people are hungry and malnourished. Winter is approaching, and we urgently need new tents,” he said. “On top of that, this area cannot handle more displaced families.”
