To add to this discussion: If Nintendo was able to “winâ€Â the PS4/XBO (or PS5/XBSX) generation coming off 13.5mil Wii Us sold, then Microsoft could’ve pulled something off. It was by no means impossible.

Big difference here was exclusives, software that people want to play and that was not available anywhere else, plus different design of console.

Switch was hybrid of 2 with Nintendo uniting both their handheld and home

Series S/X is just more powerful Xbox One with no exclusive software.

Its totally different situation.

The only way i could see Xbox competitive this gen, not to win, just to be competitive, was to have Series X cost 300-350e  and Series S to cost around 150-200e

Exactly! Imagine if XBSXS chose the route of being an affordable hybrid system with graphics comparable to PS5 (docked) (which Microsoft would sell at a loss (they could afford it)). And let’s say Microsoft didn’t port over all their first-party software, keeping everything exclusive to Xbox & PC. Then you’ve got a system that could have easily beat PS5 this gen.
