If we’re talking Nintendo? Switch 2 is the way (since it’s only $50USD more than NSWOLED). Is we’re talking PS5? PS4 is signficantly more economical than PS5, so there is reason to consider recommending old gen. If the person wants to play modern gen games, then ofc PS5 is the way. If the person is simply looking to play some good games, then they can either save a few hundred in the short-term by purchasing PS4 alongside tons of old games for $20 each OR they can fully commit to PS5 and have double the library available.
(If we’re talking Xbox? Just purchase a PS5 or an XBOne. That system is unreasonably expensive for its value. Plus, it’ll likely become obsolete by the end of next year.)
